2. A Mighty Fortress…the Stories Behind the 2nd San Francisco Mint

A new book, and the only book ever written, on the Second San Francisco Mint affectionately called the Granite Lady. This 130 year-old magnificent building sits in the middle of the city of San Francisco languishing with neglect for the last 9 years. It was closed at the end of 1994 because; it is said, the cost of retrofitting the building, and the expense of running the museum that was within, was prohibitive. It is currently being remodeled and is soon to be reopened as the San Francisco Museum and Historical Society. The building’s importance to the history of the City of San Francisco is notable.
